Introducing Dr. Larry Matney

Ottawa Chiropractor, Dr. Larry Matney

“I was first introduced to chiropractic after a high school football back injury,” recalls Dr. Larry Matney.  “However, my real belief in chiropractic came when my father (late in life) developed asthma.  He started having severe asthma attacks; if you’ve ever been around anyone like that you know what I mean.  The real reason my father went to a chiropractor was not for his asthma, but for a back strain.  The chiropractor explained to him that pinched spinal nerves could be affecting his asthmatic condition, and the rest is history.  After a period of chiropractic care my father’s asthmatic condition greatly improved.  Needless to say, the chiropractor that helped my father so much had a great influence on my becoming a chiropractor.”

“Now, after being a chiropractor for the past 45 years and seeing the many changes that have taken place in patients’ health,” Dr. Matney continues, “I never cease to wonder why some people who are suffering never explore the relief that only chiropractic care can give.”

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Matney.  “So, we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions, and attempt to over communicate.  Patients appreciate that.”  Remember, that only a chiropractor knows if your condition can respond to chiropractic care.

Dr. Matney has been married for 50 years to his wife Janet.  They have four children and thirteen grandchildren.  His oldest daughter, Dr. Cheri Jung, has been practicing with him since 1995.  He enjoys golfing, walking, boating, and spending time at their lake home with his family.  He loves watching sporting events, especially ones which involve his grandkids.

Dr. Matney graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College where he received an outstanding student award.  He has been President of the CCC alumni and Kansas Director for the International Chiropractors Association.  In 1981, he was selected for membership in both the Chiropractic Knights and Distinguished Fellows of the ICA.  In 1990, he was selected CCC Alumnus of the Year.  He has served on the Council of Chiropractic Education, which evaluates and reviews Chiropractic Colleges throughout the United States for accreditation.  Dr. Matney currently serves on the Board of Directors at Cleveland Chiropractic College.

Locally, he has served as Chairman of Franklin County United Way and President of the Ottawa School Board.

Dr. Cheri Asks some important questions of interest to Ottawa residents - Chiropractor Ottawa Dr. Cheri Asks...

How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Ottawa chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
