Introducing Dr. Michael J. Hiatt

Ottawa Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Hiatt"It was all I ever wanted to be," remembers Dr. Mike Hiatt. "From the time of my first adjustment by Dr. Larry Matney and including up to now, it was all I ever wanted to be . . . a chiropractor."

"What kind of results did I get?" continued Dr. Hiatt. "Having suffered from headaches and experiencing relief without drugs, made a great impression on me. That’s when I decided that I would be a chiropractor."

Dr Hiatt began his pre-chiropractic education at Emporia State University where he studied the basic sciences; such as chemistry, biology, physiology, and anatomy. He remembers his favorite course was in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.

After completing his pre-chiropractic studies, Dr. Hiatt was accepted at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri. During his time at Cleveland, Dr. Hiatt devoted his energies to the study of chiropractic adjusting techniques, anatomy, physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, and patient care. After graduating, Dr. Hiatt practiced for a year in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1990, he joined practices in Ottawa with his first chiropractor, Dr. Larry Matney. Together with Dr. Cheri Jung, they formed Ottawa Chiropractic Clinic in 1995.

"I enjoy working with all types of patients, from infants to adults. I believe in emphasizing wellness and prevention with my patients," says Dr. Hiatt. "I believe my mission is to promote wellness, prevent illness, and restore health through natural chiropractic techniques."

Dr. Hiatt is married to Denise and they have two children, Blake and Ashea’. Blake and Ashea’ keep their parents on the move with a full slate of sports and school activities. (Ask Dr. Hiatt about how chiropractic can improve your all-stars’ school and sports performance. He’ll be glad to brag, oops, I mean explain!)

Dr. Cheri Asks some important questions of interest to Ottawa residents - Chiropractor Ottawa Dr. Cheri Asks...

How do you know when you're healthy?
Ask most Ottawa residents this simple question and you're likely to hear, "When you feel good" or "When you're at your proper weight for your height" or "When you have lots of energy and vitality." Great answers. But our chiropractic patients know that true health is when your body is working as it was designed. True health is how you function, not how you feel.
Why are chiropractors wary of the germ theory?
Louis Pasteur originated the idea that germs caused disease. Yet, on his deathbed he recanted, declaring, "It's not the seed, but the soil." Meaning, it's not the germ that causes disease, but the condition of the body that allows the germ to thrive. Chiropractic care in our Ottawa office is designed to bolster your resistance so germs don't see you as a good host.
